Japan marathon winners bag award named after Ethiopian legend Abebe

CHIBA, Japan - Yetnayet Abebe (L), son of Ethiopian marathon legend Abebe Bikila (1932-1973), awards Yuki Kawauchi, the winner of the half-marathon race at the Chiba Aqualine Marathon, the Abebe Bikila Cup during an award ceremony in Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture, on Oct. 19, 2014. The cup was created for the marathon at the initiative of the Ethiopian Embassy in Tokyo to promote the legendary marathon runner. Bikila won gold medals at the 1960 Rome and 1964 Tokyo Olympics and is famous for running barefoot in Rome. (
